How to find identity in music production

Episode 29_.jpg

Pieter Borgh is a very creative music producer, DJ and gardener living in New Zealand. He was born and raised in South Africa. His mother is a psychologist and his father is an eye doctor. In 1994, after apartheid ended, Pieter was 10 years old. At this time he moved with his 5 siblings and his mom to London. After moving back and forward between England and South Africa, he finally ended up in New Zealand at the age of 14. He still lives there. We met Pieter during our time in New Zealand. Pieter has a diploma in Graphic Design, an apprenticeship in gardening and he runs his own gardening company. His passion is music and dancing. At one point in his life, he decided to fully focus on doing what he loves in life: Music. This decision led him where he’s today: A highly skilled music producer, DJ and party creator. In this interview Pieter shares his experiences about DJing, the long journey of becoming a music producer, moving between countries in his childhood, his time in South Africa and his struggles finding his identity. We recorded this interview during the COVID-19 lockdown in NZ.
